In 1902 the Hohl family, hoteliers originally from Davos, a famous mountain resort town in the Grigioni Canton of Switzerland, moved to Gardone Riviera, which had become popular tourist destination. This marked the start of Pensione Hohl, which was run by sisters Berta and Emma Hohl up until 1951. The Hotel Villa Sofia was subsequently owned by the Alton-Roncoroni family, who ran the establishment until its closing in 2001. After a meticulous restoration and development project, the completely remodeled Villa Sofia is now open to the public.
